VILLIEU, SÉBASTIEN DE, officier de marine, fils de Claude-Sébastien et de Judith Leneuf de La Vallière, né à Québec en 1693, mort à La Rochelle sur le navire la Paix, le 27 juillet 1715.

Sébastien de Villieu commença comme cadet dans la compagnie de son père en Acadie vers 1698 ; le gouverneur de Brouillan [Monbeton] le proposa en 1701 pour un brevet d’enseigne qu’il n’obtint pas, sans doute en raison de son jeune âge. Nommé garde-marine à Rochefort le 1er mai 1704, il servit surtout dans la marine puis passa au service de la Compagnie du Castor qui lui confia plusieurs de ses navires.

En 1712, il commandait la frégate la Providence, de 16 canons et 50 hommes d’équipage, armée pour la baie d’Hudson. Le 19 juillet, il livra un beau combat à une frégate anglaise de 32 canons qui dut se retirer après avoir eu une explosion à bord. Nommé sous-brigadier des gardes de la marine le 20 janvier 1713, Villieu sollicita vainement la même année un brevet de lieutenant de frégate puis, en juin, commanda la Louise, armée par Pagès et Fleury, négociants de La Rochelle. La même année, il conclut un traité avec la Compagnie du Castor pour commander encore une fois la Providence qui devait aller à la baie d’Hudson évacuer les postes cédés à l’Angleterre en vertu du traité d’Utrecht.
