LANGOISSIEUX, CHARLES (baptisé Pierre), frère, récollet, premier Français à devenir religieux en Nouvelle-France, originaire de la ville de Rouen, décédé à Gisors en 1645.

Arrivé au Canada très probablement en 1619, il se consacrait à l’instruction des Amérindiens de la région de Trois-Rivières depuis trois ans quand il manifesta le désir d’entrer chez les Récollets. Le père Guillaume Galleran « le reçut donc au noviciat ; la cérémonie de vêture se fit au mois de septembre 1622 en notre église Notre-Dame-des-Anges, avec le concours de Monsieur le Gouverneur, de tout ce qu’il y avait de Français, et d’une multitude de Sauvages. Il fut appelé Frère Charles, du nom de notre premier père syndic », Charles de Boves.

Au cours de son noviciat, le frère Charles faillit perdre la vie dans des circonstances que Sagard a décrites dans son Histoire du Canada. Son noviciat terminé, il fit profession et, en 1624, regagna le poste de Trois-Rivières pour continuer à y instruire les Amérindiens. La capitulation de Québec vint mettre un terme à son apostolat en terre canadienne. Le 9 septembre 1629, avec les autres récollets, il quittait Québec pour la France où il débarqua le 29 octobre.

Après avoir rempli les plus humbles tâches réservées aux frères lais dans différents couvents de sa province, il s’éteignit à Gisors le 23 octobre 1645.
