JALOBERT, MACÉ, beau-frère et compagnon de voyage de Jacques Cartier. Fils de Bertrand Jalobert et de Jehanne Maingard, il avait épousé vers 1528 Alizon Des Granches, sœur de la femme de Cartier.

À titre de capitaine et pilote de la Petite Hermine, Jalobert fit partie de l’expédition de 1535–1536, qui comptait plusieurs parents de Cartier. La Petite Hermine prit la mer le 19 Mai 1535 en même temps que la Grande Hermine et l’Émérillon, mais le mauvais temps l’isola à partir du 25 juin et Jalobert ne put rejoindre Cartier que le 26 juillet au Blanc-Sablon. Jalobert fut de ceux qui accompagnèrent Cartier à Hochelaga, à l’automne de 1535. Il rentra en France en juillet 1536.

En mai 1541, Jalobert se joignit à l’expédition de cinq navires que Cartier avait charge de conduire au Canada. La traversée de Bretagne à Terre-Neuve dura trois mois ; et, dès le 2 septembre suivant, Jalobert et Étienne Noël [V. Jacques Noël] reprenaient la mer : Cartier les envoyait annoncer à François Ier « ce qui avoit été fait et trouvé ». Qu’advint-il ensuite de Macé Jalobert ? Nous ignorons s’il revint au Canada en 1542 avec l’expédition de La Rocque de Roberval. En 1555, il s’occupe encore de navigation, puisqu’un document le qualifie de maître de la Marguerite Bonaventure de Saint-Malo. C’est la dernière mention qui soit faite de Jalobert.
