AIGRON, dit Lamothe, PIERRE, né à Saint-Étienne d’Estée, diocèse de La Rochelle, fils de Pierre Aigron et de Marie Daquin, décédé à Québec après 1685.

Venu à Québec comme matelot en 1660, il s’adonna à la vente des boissons enivrantes aux sauvages au moment où Mgr de Laval* menait une campagne contre ce trafic. L’évêque avait décrété, le 6 mai 1660, l’excommunication ipso facto contre quiconque se livrerait à ce commerce. Avide de faciles profits, Aigron continua son trafic. Laval résolut d’en faire un exemple public et, le 18 avril 1661, l’excommunia nommément, lui interdisant l’entrée de l’église sous peine d’en être « chassé ou jeté dehors ». Devant la condamnation religieuse et la réprobation générale, Aigron se soumit, le dimanche suivant, à la pénitence publique.

Aigron devint maître de barque et, le 18 janvier 1663, il épousa à Québec Marie-Madeleine Doucet, de Saint-Sauveur de La Rochelle. En 1680, il alla s’établir sur la côte de Gaspé.

En 1682, il était à l’emploi de la Compagnie du Nord à la baie d’Hudson. Emmené à Londres par Radisson* en 1684, il s’engagea en 1685 à la Hudsons Bay Company pour quatre ans, après quoi il retourna au Canada.
