WALKER, RICHARD, capitaine, sous-gouverneur de la Nouvelle-Écosse ou de l’Acadie sous les ordres de Sir Thomas Temple, en 1670 ; circa 1637–1680.

Un des pionniers de la colonisation en Nouvelle-Angleterre, il était membre de l’Honorable Artillery Company de Londres et de l’Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company de Boston. Il avait le grade d’enseigne lorsqu’il occupa le poste de contrôleur des armes pour Saugus en 1637. En 1640, il fut député à la cour générale de la baie de Massachusetts. Dès 1648, il avait le grade de lieutenant et représentait Reading à la cour générale. Il fut promu au grade de capitaine en 1652.

Le 7 juillet 1670, à Boston, Sir Thomas Temple écrivit au capitaine Richard Walker, qui se trouvait alors en Nouvelle-Écosse, lui enjoignant, conformément aux ordres de Sa Majesté en date du 8 mars 1668/1669 et du 6 août 1669, de céder l’Acadie (« notamment les forts et les habitations de Pentagouet, Saint-Jean [Jemseg], Port-Royal, La Have et Cap de Sable ») à d’Andigné de Grandfontaine. En conséquence, Walker céda Pentagouet le 17 juillet 1670 à d’Andigné, et Jemseg, le 27 août, Port-Royal et le fort La Tour, le 2 septembre 1670, à Joybert de Soulanges.

En 1677, le capitaine Richard Walker habitait Lynn, dans le Massachusetts, avec sa femme Sarah, veuve d’Obediah Walker. Il représenta Lynn à la cour générale en 1679–1680.
