GODEFROY DE VIEUXPONT, JACQUES, trafiquant et interprète, fils de Jean Godefroy de Lintot, baptisé à Trois-Rivières le 6 mars 1641, tué au nord de cette ville en 1661.

Au printemps de 1661, « allant en traitte », il quitta Trois-Rivières en compagnie d’un Français et d’une trentaine d’Attikamègues. En cours de route, le groupe fut attaqué par une bande de 80 Iroquois. Le combat fut acharné et dura 48 heures. Le courage des Attikamègues et des deux Blancs leur aurait valu la victoire, dit la Relation, si une malencontreuse division entre deux chefs ne l’avait compromise. Jacques Godefroy fut admirable de sang-froid et de hardiesse ; mais, à la fin, percé de balles, il mourut entre les bras de ses compagnons. Un seul Attikamègue survécut à ce combat, dont il porta la nouvelle à Trois-Rivières. 24 Iroquois y avaient perdu la vie.
