GOBIN, JEAN, marchand, né à Tours en 1646, décédé à Québec le 11 juillet 1703.

Peu après son arrivée au Canada, entre 1680 et 1684, Gobin s’établit comme marchand et affréteur, et dès 1685 il était au nombre des directeurs de la Compagnie du Nord. Il fut nommé tuteur des enfants de Philippe Gaultier* de Comporté, après la mort de ce dernier en 1687. Il s’ensuivit un long procès au cours duquel Gobin fut accusé de réaliser des bénéfices aux dépens des héritiers de Comporté, et le tribunal l’obligea à rembourser une somme importante. En 1688, Gobin se fit concéder une propriété à la basse ville de Québec. Le 14 avril 1689, il obtint, ainsi que plusieurs de ses associés, les droits de pêche dans le golfe du Saint-Laurent et, en 1690, il reçut en concession une seigneurie en Acadie, qu’il vendit la même année. Charles Aubert de La Chesnaye, principal marchand de la colonie, fut l’associé de Gobin dans plusieurs entreprises, notamment dans une tannerie et une briqueterie, et tous deux avaient placé de l’argent dans la Compagnie de la Colonie.

Gobin mourut insolvable en 1703. Lui et sa femme, Gabrielle Bécasseau, furent enterrés dans la crypte de l’église de Notre-Dame de Québec. Ils ne laissèrent pas d’enfants.
