DURET DE CHEVRY DE LA BOULAYE, CHARLES, lieutenant pour le roi en Acadie de 1685 à 1690, né vers 1645, mort en 1691 ( ?).

Il était cousin germain de Charles-François Duret de Chevry, marquis de Villeneuve, appelé marquis de Chevry (mort le 16 novembre 1712), promoteur de la Compagnie de la Pêche sédentaire de l’Acadie [V. Bergier]. La Boulaye se distingua comme officier dans les Flandres en 1677 et, dès 1685, il succédait à Bergier au poste de lieutenant pour le roi en Acadie. Il se trouvait à Chedabouctou (Guysborough, N.É.), – base d’opérations, de la compagnie de pêche, située à sept ou huit lieues de Canseau – lorsque Jacques de Meulles*, intendant de la Nouvelle-France, y arriva le 5 juin 1686. À Canseau, de Meulles, qui se rendait à Chedabouctou, vit le Saint-Louis, vaisseau de la compagnie de pêche arrivé huit ou dix jours plus tôt pour pêcher la morue. L’établissement de la compagnie à Chedabouctou comprenait alors le fort Saint-Louis et quelques huttes de construction rudimentaire. La Boulaye avait là 15 ou 20 hommes et, à trois lieues du fort, trois ou quatre habitants avaient défriché et fumé trois acres de terre. Il accompagna de Meulles lorsque celui-ci visita l’île du Cap-Breton en 1686. La Boulaye s’enfuit à Québec en 1688 pour échapper aux flibustiers. En 1689, n’ayant reçu aucune rémunération, il demanda une concession minière et un congé pour retourner en France. Bien qu’on eût prétendu que, lorsque le capitaine Cyprian Southack* captura Chedabouctou en 1690, La Boulaye fut fait prisonnier et envoyé à Boston où il mourut, Dauphin de Montorgueuil, qui était alors commandant du fort Saint-Louis, et Bochart* de Champigny rapportent en 1690 que La Boulaye était rentré en France.
