DU PONT DE RENON, MICHEL (appelé parfois Du Pont de Saint-Pierre), officier de la garnison d‘Acadie et de l’île Royale (île du Cap-Breton), né à Sérignac, en Saintonge, mort noyé, le 4 septembre 1719, à Port-Dauphin, île Royale (Englishtown, N.-É.).

Ses parents étaient Hugues Du Pont et Marie Hérauld de Gourville ; il était le frère de François Du Pont Duvivier et de Louis Du Pont* Duchambon. Le 26 février 1710, il épousa à Port-Royal (Annapolis Royal, N.-É.) Anne de Goutins, fille de Marie-Jeanne Tibaudeau et de Mathieu de Goutin, qui était le plus haut personnage parmi les autorités civiles d’Acadie. Cinq enfants naquirent de ce mariage.

Renon vint de France en Acadie en 1702, en qualité de lieutenant dans la compagnie de son frère, François. En 1705, il assura l’intérim comme aide-major. Quand, en 1710, Port-Royal se rendit aux Britanniques, commandés par Nicholson, Renon retourna en France et y demeura jusqu’à sa nomination, en 1714, au poste d’aide-major de la nouvelle colonie de l’île Royale. En juin 1715, il prit, en qualité de capitaine, la succession de son frère François, décédé. La même année, dans ses lettres, le gouverneur Pastour de Costebelle parla favorablement de lui et de son dévouement au service du roi.

Après la mort de Renon, en 1719, sa veuve épousa, en 1724, Michel Hertel de Cournoyer, subdélégué de l’intendant à Port-Dauphin.
